Inside Adolescent AI Chatbot Relationships
Dan Florell, PhD, NCSP, LP

As adolescents increasingly turn to AI chatbots for emotional support, advice, companionship, academic help, and problem-solving, school psychologists are encountering a new influence on student development and mental health. This session examines why adolescents use AI chatbots and the developmental needs these tools may fulfill. In addition, potential benefits and emerging risks along with warning signs of problematic use will be highlighted. Participants will leave with evidence-informed strategies for recognizing clinically meaningful AI use while supporting healthy technology habits.

Smart Tools, Sound Judgment: Ethical AI Use in School Psychology Practice
Adam B. Lockwood, PhD, NCSP, LP

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in professional practice. AI tools may assist with writing, organization, communication, documentation, and other work-related tasks. At the same time, these tools raise ethical and professional concerns related to privacy, confidentiality, accuracy, bias, competence, transparency, and professional judgment. This session will review current issues in AI use and provide practical guidance for evaluating when and how AI may be used responsibly. Participants will consider how ethical principles can guide decision-making and will examine safeguards such as human review, verification of AI-generated content, appropriate documentation, and attention to student and family privacy.

3:15 - 4:15 PM
PAR’s AI Report Writer: A Start-to-Finish Workflow for School Psychologists
Melissa Nolan, MS, MA, LEP

This will be an overview of PAR's new AI Report Writing tool. Participants will be able to:

  1. Organize assessment materials efficiently by compiling and structuring relevant documents (e.g., background information, test data, rating scales, and records) prior to using PAR’s AI report writer.
  2. Upload and manage source documents within the AI platform to ensure accurate and comprehensive report generation.
  3. Customize report structure and flow by determining the order of sections and aligning the report format with their professional preferences and practice needs.
  4. Select appropriate tone and level of detail to generate reports that are clinically sound, audience-appropriate, and aligned with their communication style (e.g., parent-friendly vs. technical).
  5. Generate a complete psychoeducational report using PAR’s AI report writer from start to finish.
  6. Apply practical workflow strategies, including the use of external tools (e.g., Google Docs) to gather, organize, and prepare information prior to upload.
  7. Manage incomplete data effectively by making informed decisions about when and how to run reports with partial information.
  8. Refine and improve report output by regenerating specific sections and editing content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and professional quality.
