Meet Our Presenters

Katie Heywood is an accomplished educational leader dedicated to enhancing teaching and learning through strategic instructional technology integration. Currently serving as a Senior Administrator for Digital Learning in Wake County Public School System, NC, she provides leadership to academic content teams and designs asynchronous professional learning to build staff proficiency. Katherine is a proven collaborator, skilled at partnering with administrators and stakeholders to align digital curriculum with district goals and equity pathways. She remains committed to fostering accessible, student-centered learning environments through data-informed design.


Jake Finan, EdS has been employed as a school psychologist for the past 13 years, serving Wake County for the past 10 years and Cleveland County for three years before that. His "School Psych Nerd" video series on digital tools for school psychologists has racked up roughly 50,000 views. He has served as NCSPA Treasurer, loves improv comedy, The Legends of Zelda, and most of all, his sons Teddy and Bennett. 


Dan Florell, PhD, NCSPA, LP is a Professor at Eastern Kentucky University and he runs a private practice. He trained school psychologists in a graduate program for 20 years. Dr. Florell has a Ph.D. in School Psychology from Illinois State University. He is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP), licensed psychologist, and APA Fellow of Division 16. Dr. Florell is actively involved in NASP and is the NASP Historian and Online Communication Coordinator. His column Just a Click Away appears in the Communique and he writes a bi-weekly column on children and adolescent issues in the local newspaper. His main research focus is on artificial intelligence, technology, telehealth, professional issues, and the history of school psychology. 


Adam Lockwood, PhD, NCSP, LP is an Associate Professor of School Psychology at Kent State University. His research and training focus on the integration of artificial intelligence into psychological practice, including AI-assisted report writing, ethical and governance frameworks, and AI-supported research methods. Dr. Lockwood chairs the National Register of Health Service Psychologists’ AI and Emerging Technologies Committee and has served on AI task forces for the National Association of School Psychologists and the Ohio School Health Services Association. In 2025, he was selected for the OpenAI Academy: Professors Teaching with AI. His article, Examining the Capabilities of GPT-4 to Write an APA-Style School Psychology Paper, was recognized as the 2025 Article of the Year by Contemporary School Psychology for its pioneering contribution to understanding AI’s role in psychological scholarship.


Melissa Nolan, MS, MA, LEP is the CEO and Founder of Assessment Assist AI which was recently acquired by PAR. She draws on 30+ years in psycho-educational assessment to streamline and enhance the work of psychologists. With a background as a school psychologist, school administrator, advocate, and private practice Licensed Educational Psychologist, Melissa strives to help lead innovation in special education services.
